The dreaded word strap
Being a teacher I must be very careful with my vocabulary. Even when I am pronouncing words we must be careful that students do not misinterpret what I say. If I do this, then there can be very embarrassing moments because the student has misunderstood or misinterpreted what I said. I want to be a good example for my students and use words appropriately and avoid embarrassing situations. In the last couple of years I have visited more than once before a classroom full of students with the mouths open looking at me with astonishment. How dare I say that? So I find myself explaining that when I was young the word had a completely different meaning than it has today. Now, In recent years this has happened with some words like gay.
